James Grana is an accomplished Value-Based Care (VBC) executive and strategist with extensive experience on both the payer and provider sides of the health system.
He is currently the Vice President of Value Based Care Programs and Contracting in the Healthcare Innovation and Improvement Division of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.
On the provider side of the health system, James has served in various strategic positions. At the Rush Health Clinically Integrated Network, he served as the Interim President, the Chief Analytics Officer, and the Chief of the Contracting and Network Development Division.
James was the Divisional Vice President for Health Services and Outcomes Research at the Walgreens Corporate Office.
Prior to joining Walgreens, James served as the Vice President of Enterprise Analytics at Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC / Blue Cross Blue Shield)[1] concentrating on value-based care program development and enablement.
Earlier in his career, he served as the VP of Business Data and Informatics at Assurant, a Fortune 300 Company. Preceding that role, he was the Director of Research and Quantitative Business Analytics at Aetna Inc. where he facilitated the mergers of (and subsequently led) analytical teams from Aetna, Prudential Health, New York Life Healthcare, and U.S. Healthcare. Previous to that, he was a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps, the president of a consulting company, and taught health services research and management courses at Penn State University and The University of Scranton.
